Radiation Testing

We perform all types of  radiation testing on electronic components, including heavy ION and total dose testing for parts used in space applications.  For terrestrial applications we expose components to the spectrum of neutrons normally seen at sea level NYC.  Flash X-ray testing reveals how a part will respond to an intense burst of X-rays.

Facilities

We have tested at most major radiation facilities around the world. A short list includes heavy ION testing at Texas A&M and Berkeley 88″ cyclotrons, Flash X-ray testing at various facilities at Sandia National Laboratories and Air Force Research Laboratories, terrestrial spectrum neutron facilities at the TRIUMF facility at UBC and the TSL facility at Uppsalla University, total dose (Co-60) facilities at UMass lowell, KAFB, Aeroflex COS, etc.

Radiation Hardening

ICs can be radiation hardened at the process level (starting material, doping profiles), at the layout level (“Hardening by Design” , guard rings, re-entrant transistors), at the circuit level (EDAC, redundancy) and at the system level(watch dog timers, circumvention)  We are well versed in all aspects of radiation hardening.

Electrical Design

We design test boards and systems based our 44 years of experience performing all types of radiation testing at a wide range of facilities.  We understand specific requirements for each type of facility and each type of radiation test.  This ranges from intense grounding and low noise requirements at FXR facilities to vacuum feed-thru plates at many cyclotron (heavy ION) facilities.

Analysis

We perform detailed analysis of experimental data to determine device sensitivities to various types of radiation.  This includes analysis of manufacturing variations and design trade-offs.
